Oliver Barry does'nt promote many concerts during the year. He normally restricts himself to Siamsa Cois Laoi and perhaps a James Last Tour. But what he does he does very well and despite stiff opposition from others he is guaranteed a 40,000 crowd at Pairc Ui Chaoimh this afternoon.
Siamsa is now an established date on the outdoor concert calender. It has provided good entertainment over the years and, of course has helped to reduce the debt on the Cork GAA's stadium.
This years promotion is John Denver. But while he is a stronger attraction and is likely to be more entertaining than many of their previous big name guests, he is likely to find the goin' gets tough when on the same bill as the Wolfe Tones.
The Tones have been on every Siamsa bill and have usually dominated the shows. The organisers will be hiring extra security personnel in light of recent trouble at outdoor concerts. But they point out that they never had any trouble in the past and feel that within the stadium it should be easier to stop any potential explosive situation......
