Noel Nagle

Noel has found himself stuck with the nickname "Hairy" because he was sporting long flowing locks long before such hirsute accoutrements became fashionable.

The son of the well-known leader of a pipe-band, he inherited his father's love of traditional Irish and ceili music. An ardent admirer of Sean O'Riada, he plays tin whistle and the uileann pipes, an ancient Irish instrument pumped from the elbow and invented (some claim) by a piper who wanted to be able to drink at the same time as he made music.

Music, especially in the traditional Irish style, is Noel's hobby as well as his livelihood and he feels that it was the great O'Riada's orchestration of Irish ceili music that revived interest and brought our national musical heritage to wider popularity.

Noel was raised in Inchicore where two of his closest friends were the notorious Warfield brothers, and is one of the most accomplished musicians on the Irish ballad scene. He is a practical man who shrugs off the world-wide success of the group by saying that they all worked hard for what they achieved.
